DESIGNER RUGS (hand-knotted from the Orient)

Apr 20th 2018

We combine modern, timeless designs with the highest quality and most traditional way of making carpets, namely by hand knotting in the Orient. This not only gives you a breathtaking carpet, but also a unique piece of ancient craftsmanship. Such a carpet or rug not only lasts a few years before the pile appears worn out and colourless, on the contrary, it even lasts for generations if cared for properly. The natural materials, such as sheep's wool, silk and plant dyes build a class of their own and are not comparable to synthetic materials.

With the Crusades of the 11th century, the first oriental carpets found their way into the European continent. According to tradition, they were initially only used as wall decoration or tablecloth, probably because of their high value and the fine ornaments and decorations. Since then they have become an integral part of our Western world and have established themselves as a symbol of prosperity and luxury. We now combine this centuries-old history with the modern design of our age and give our designer carpets a soul full of history.

Exclusivity and timeless design: Our individually designed and hand-knotted designer carpets give your room its very own character. Depending on the carpet type, these unique pieces were drafted by designers from Scandinavia (e.g. Sindhi carpets) and Hamburg (Sadraa carpets). They differ in particular in their knotting technique, which has been perfected over centuries, with a knot density that lies beyond that of those from well-known designers. They also consist of 100% natural products which you can see and feel immediately.

How are our designer carpets made? We have summarized the most important steps for you:

1. Sketching a new Design

Our designers create sketches with paper and pen, just as one would imagine. For example, beautiful old oriental ornaments and patterns are combined to timeless geometric elements and thus brought into the modern world. Also completely new designs belong to it, which show no recognizable connection to eastern origins. However, the inspiration remains the same: designs that have established themselves over centuries and are once again on the rise today.

2. Digitization

Once a design has been found, it is digitized by our experts and made available for all further steps with the highest level of detail. This is an important step in communication for the selection of materials and for crafting it in the Orient.

3. Material Selection (natural materials)

Natural materials are the most important component of our carpets. The design is used to decide which material (wool, cork wool, silk) is used to create the pile, the warp underneath the pile and what colours are to be used. Depending on the design or production method (knotting with pile or weaving as flat weave), various factors are taken into account here.

4. Crafting in the Orient

The preparatory work has been completed and all key data has been finalised. Consequently, we now have an exact idea of what the carpet will look like in detail? This is actually not the case, because an experienced knotter is now putting his creativity and skill into the carpet over months of work. He gives this carpet its very own character with soul. This is exactly what we appreciate particularly,  looking forward to a unique product that will never be crafted like this again.
