Tabriz is a city in the north-west of Iran, which is inhabited by Azerbaijanians. The city looks back to one of the oldest carpet manufacturies of the whole region. Carpets are made there in Bazar-quality, but also in high quality. The handknotted Persian Carpets from Tabriz have many different designs. One of them is the Gumbad-design, which is characterized by the domes of mausoleums and therefore it shows swung curves in different expressions. The design is very vivid, because of this kind of design.
Tabriz is worldwide known for its carpets. It had its heyday during the time between the 12th and the 16th century. Nevertheless, carpets from Tabriz are still popular these days.
